annualConcours d’Elegance featured special classes for 8-Litre Bentley, L-29 Cord,L-29 Cord, Custom Coachwork, and Postwar Aston Martin, Custom Coachwork, inaddition to fifteen of the more traditional classes.
Among the nine 8-LitreBentleys was the only 8-litre Bentley bodied in America - a 1931 MurphyConvertible Victoria designed by
Franklin Hershey who workedat the Walter M.
Murphy Coachbuilding Companyin Pasadena.
The 1931 Bentley 8-litreCorsica Sports Tourer received the Montagu of Beaulieu Trophy for the best carof British origin, and the 1931 Bentley 8-litre Barker Boattail Two Seaterreceived the Briggs Cunningham Trophy awarded to the most exciting car in theshow. The 1931 8-litre Vanden Plas Tourer won the 8-litre Class, overall.
Six L-29s were presented inthe special L-29 Cord Class, and five L-29s were presented with CustomCoachwork; designer/collector Brooks Stevens’ 1929 L-29 Cord Hayes Coupereceived the Co-Chairmen’s Trophy awarded to the car determined most deserving,as well as the L-29 Cord, Custom Coachwork Class win overall.
Five cars represented thePostwar Aston Martin, Custom Coachwork Class which included three examples fromBertone, one from Touring, and one from Zagato: the 1961 DB4 GTZ Zagato Coupewas the class winner.
The Pebble Beach Cup - awarded to the car judgedto have shown the best performance and restoration from entries in the MontereyHistoric Automobile Races - was presented to Museum member Marshall Mathews forhis 1935 Gilson Special open-wheel Indianapolis race car.
